San Antonio & New Braunfels, Texas

Officiant & Ceremony

In San Antonio & New Braunfels: Texas puts a 72-hour wait between the license being issued and the ceremony, and it is the rare piece of paperwork that gets cheaper and faster at once when you do it properly. An eight-hour Twogether in Texas premarital course waives that wait and takes $60 off the $80 Bexar County fee. The wait is also waived for active-duty military and for Department of Defense employees and contractors, which is worth knowing in a Joint Base San Antonio town, or by a written judge's waiver for good cause. The license is then valid for 90 days and valid in any other county in Texas, so a Bexar license covers a Canyon Lake ranch or a Gruene ceremony without a second trip. Both of you must appear in person, though one may be absent with a notarized affidavit, and you will need a state driver's license or ID card current or expired by no more than two years, an original or certified birth certificate, or a passport. Bexar County keeps two clerk offices: the Paul Elizondo Tower downtown, and the Southside Annex on Pleasanton Road, which is not downtown and is often the shorter errand. Comal County's clerk in New Braunfels serves Gruene, Canyon Lake and Bulverde as well, and the base fee is set county by county, so confirm yours before you drive over.
