The wedding registries worth your consideration
Registries are national services — the same shortlist works whether you're in Manhattan or Missoula, which is why your SM4E Vendor Annex points here rather than listing local retailers. Below: the seven platforms we recommend, sorted by what they're actually best for. Pair one universal registry with one brand-specific one and you're done — a third "just in case" registry only makes the gift list harder for your guests to shop.
This page contains affiliate links. SM4E may earn a small commission when you create a registry through one of these — at no cost to you. We chose the platforms below on merit; the fees don't influence the ranking.
Universal registries — gifts from anywhere
One registry link, guests shop from any retailer. The cleanest option for most couples — everything in one place, one delivery address to manage, one thank-you list.
-
Zola Free
The default universal registry for weddings now — everything, cash funds, honeymoon, experiences, and their planning tools rolled in. Guests shop through Zola but items ship from the original store. Best for couples who want one dashboard for gifts + cash gifts.
-
MyRegistry Free
Universal registry with the widest retailer coverage — add anything from any store using their browser button. No vendor lock-in, works from a phone app, and their gift-tracking is genuinely useful post-wedding.
-
Amazon Wedding Registry → Free
Best when a lot of your gift list is Amazon anyway — group gifting, price tracking, easy returns, and up to a 20% completion discount on remaining items after the wedding. Set it up as your "stuff" registry alongside a universal one for cash/experiences.
Cash & honeymoon funds
For couples who already have the household set up. A cash-focused registry lets guests contribute to your honeymoon, home down payment, or a specific experience rather than sending vague cash.
-
Newlywed Fund Free (2.4% + $0.30 per gift)
Cash-focused registry designed to feel less awkward than asking for money directly. Fund categories are yours to name ("first home," "honeymoon," "nest egg"), and there's a physical registry card option for couples who want a paper trail.
Brand-specific & planning-integrated registries
Add a store-specific registry when you actually want that store's gear — The Knot when you're using their planning tools, Target for basics, Crate & Barrel for kitchen and home.
-
The Knot Registry Free
Best if you're already using The Knot's planning tools — the registry lives in the same dashboard as your guest list, seating chart, and vendor tracker. Gifts, cash funds, and experiences all supported.
-
Target Wedding Registry Free
The strongest big-box registry for household basics under $50 — sheets, towels, small appliances, kitchen gear. 15% off completion discount on remaining items, and returns are painless at any store.
-
Crate & Barrel Free
The higher-end kitchen/home registry — cookware, glassware, small furniture, table settings. 10-15% completion discount and their in-store consultations are useful for building a coherent registry rather than a random list.
How many registries should you set up?
Two is the sweet spot: one universal registry (Zola or MyRegistry) so all your "stuff" gifts and cash gifts live in one place for guests, and one brand-specific registry (Target, Crate & Barrel, or Amazon) for the gear you specifically want from that store. Three-plus registries fragment the gift list and make it harder for guests to know where to shop. Set up your primary registry ~9 months out — early enough that it's ready for the shower — and add the second at the ~6-month mark.
This page is refreshed quarterly. Registry platforms change their offerings, discounts, and fee structures — if you find a link that no longer resolves or a platform whose terms have changed materially, let us know.
