Knoxville & the Smokies, Tennessee

Mobile Bar / Servers

In Knoxville & the Smokies: Four (4) service bar businesses in the region, all on the Knoxville side. That is a genuinely thin market for a metro of this size, so a wedding beyond the Knoxville ring -- anywhere south of Sevierville especially -- often means the bar service driving in with its own permit paperwork, or the couple choosing the buy-it-yourself route and hiring licensed bartenders separately. Tennessee's alcohol rules distinguish beer from wine and spirits, and a venue that permits beer and wine only is a different setup from one that allows a full bar, so confirm with the specific venue what it will and will not let you serve before you plan on cocktails. Whichever route you pick, insist on licensed professional bartenders who pace service, keep water and a real non-alcoholic option flowing, serve food alongside the drinks, and know when to close the bar down. The alternatives block below points at the retail route.

Buying the beer, wine and spirits yourself

These are retail sources, not event services — nobody here staffs your bar. Where your venue allows it, buying the alcohol yourself and hiring a licensed bartender to serve it is usually the cheapest way to do this line. The rules vary by state, by county and by venue, so confirm what yours permits — and whether your setup needs its own permit — before you count on the saving.
