Charleston, South Carolina

Attire & Accessories

In Charleston: Dress for the weather you will actually have, not the one in the photographs you saved. From late spring through September this is a hot, humid, outdoor-heavy market, and heavy satin, full linings and three-piece wool are a long day in it. Ask about lighter fabrics, linings you can lose, and whether a jacket can come off after the ceremony without the look falling apart. Alterations take several fittings across weeks and the local salons book those in peak season alongside everyone else's, so order with more margin than the national guidance suggests. If your party is flying in, decide early whether they are being fitted at home or here, because a last-minute alteration in a wedding week is an expensive scramble.
