Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Mobile Bar / Servers

In Philadelphia: One bar service made this list, based in the Newtown Square and Broomall area; the four labeled entries beneath it are retail liquor stores rather than bar companies, and every one of them sits in Delaware or New Jersey rather than Philadelphia itself. That is not a gap in the crawl — it's Pennsylvania law. The state controls wine and spirits sales through its own state-run stores rather than licensing private liquor retailers the way Delaware and New Jersey do, which is why a couple who wants to buy their own alcohol for a Pennsylvania wedding will generally be shopping across a state line rather than around the corner. If you're hiring service instead, book this shelf early — it is genuinely short — and confirm in writing that whoever you hire is licensed for the specific state your venue sits in, since a bartending company that works Pennsylvania is not automatically licensed to pour in New Jersey or Delaware. Budget roughly $2,800 to $10,000.

Buying the beer, wine and spirits yourself

These are retail sources, not event services — nobody here staffs your bar. Where your venue allows it, buying the alcohol yourself and hiring a licensed bartender to serve it is usually the cheapest way to do this line. The rules vary by state, by county and by venue, so confirm what yours permits — and whether your setup needs its own permit — before you count on the saving.
