Las Vegas, Nevada

Officiant & Ceremony

In Las Vegas: Nevada is the easiest state in the country to marry in, and it still has one rule that catches almost everyone. The license itself is simple: the Clark County Marriage License Bureau is open from eight in the morning until midnight every day of the year, there is no waiting period, the license is valid for a year, and it costs $102 in cash or $105.29 by card. Both of you appear in person, and you can pre-apply online within ninety days. The catch is the officiant. Anyone who solemnizes a marriage here, minister or notary or a friend ordained online, must hold a Certificate of Permission to Perform Marriages from a county clerk. A single-ceremony certificate exists for officiants from out of state. Confirm yours holds one before anything else.

Churches and congregations

These are places of worship rather than for-hire officiants. Many will marry members of their own congregation, or couples willing to join and complete a marriage preparation course, and some will not marry non-members at all. Several also price the building, the clergy and the musician separately. Ask early what they require of you — policy varies widely between denominations, and between individual congregations of the same denomination.
