Minneapolis–St Paul, Minnesota

Mobile Bar / Servers

In Minneapolis–St Paul: The hired bar-service market here is genuinely thin — three dedicated bartending and bar-service businesses cover the whole metro — so if your date is a popular one, book this line as early as the venue itself rather than circling back to it last. Many venues require a licensed bartender even when you supply your own alcohol, and some restrict service to an approved list entirely, so confirm which rule yours enforces before you plan around a rented bar cart. Buying the alcohol yourself and hiring a licensed bartender to pour it is usually the more affordable path where a venue allows it, but confirm whether your particular setup needs its own permit before you count on the saving — that requirement varies by city and by venue, not by any single statewide rule. Whatever you choose, insist on servers trained to pace the room, keep real food moving alongside the drinks, and see that every guest gets home safely at the end of the night.

Buying the beer, wine and spirits yourself

These are retail sources, not event services — nobody here staffs your bar. Where your venue allows it, buying the alcohol yourself and hiring a licensed bartender to serve it is usually the cheapest way to do this line. The rules vary by state, by county and by venue, so confirm what yours permits — and whether your setup needs its own permit — before you count on the saving.
