New Orleans, Louisiana
Favors & Gifts
In New Orleans: The good news is that this is the easiest city in America to send guests home from. Pralines, chicory coffee, a bottle of local hot sauce, Zapp's, satsuma or Creole cream cheese from a local maker — all of it is specific, all of it travels, and none of it ends up in a hotel bin. Custom-stamped doubloons or beads work if your date is anywhere near Carnival and are genuinely collected rather than discarded. Two practical notes: buy from a maker rather than a Decatur Street souvenir shop, and check what your out-of-town guests can actually carry — anything liquid over three ounces has to go in a checked bag, which most of them will not have.
