In Honolulu: This is the one category where Hawaii is cheaper than the mainland, and only if you let it be. Orchids, anthurium, ti leaf, plumeria, tuberose and monstera are grown here and priced accordingly; peonies, garden roses and anything else flown in carry freight and arrive tired. Leis are not decoration, they are part of the ceremony — maile for the grooms, a haku poo for the bride, and a lei for parents and grandparents — and a florist here will build them as a matter of course. Ask what happens to your arrangements in wind, because the trade winds on an exposed lawn will take apart anything tall and unballasted before the first guest sits down.
