Napa & Sonoma, California

Wedding Planner / Coordinator

In Napa & Sonoma: Ten planners and coordinators serve the region, and the argument for hiring one here is not the logistics. It is the fire season. The four largest recent fires in these two counties began on the eighth of October, the ninth of October, the twenty-third of October and the twenty-seventh of September — inside the most-booked weeks of the year. Peak fire weather runs from late summer into early autumn on offshore winds, and in October of 2019 the weather service recorded gusts of a hundred three miles an hour near one of them. Separately, a public safety power shutoff is not weather cancelling your wedding: it is the utility, a company with no contract with you, cutting power to the venue, the caterer's kitchen and the well pump, potentially for days and at short notice. Ask every venue for its generator capacity and its written shutoff and evacuation policy before you sign anything. A written postponement clause and event insurance are worth discussing with someone who knows this region. Budget $5,000 to $18,000.
